Coenzyme Q10, or Ubiquinone, plays a crucial role in maintaining the optimal functionality of many organs and supporting vital chemical reactions in the body. It acts as a powerful antioxidant and is essential for the proper functioning of mitochondria. Coenzyme Q10 levels tend to decrease with age, due to prolonged pharmacological treatments or in the presence of chronic diseases, which can compromise its effectiveness and availability for the body.

Traditional coenzyme Q10 supplements may suffer from significant limitations, mainly related to their stability and availability, as coenzyme Q10 is fat-soluble and can be degraded by factors such as oxygen and light.

Microencapsulation presents itself as an ideal solution capable of overcoming many of the limitations of traditional supplements. This method involves protecting coenzyme Q10 dispersed in oil within microcapsules obtained through coacervation in an aqueous phase. This process protects coenzyme Q10 from oxidizing agents and facilitates its release at the intestinal level, where it can be absorbed more effectively.

IPS microcapsules contain between 5% and 10% Ubiquinone and are formulated to maintain the antioxidant properties of coenzyme Q10 intact. Thanks to their composition, these microcapsules ensure the stability of the coenzyme against degradation from light and moisture. Moreover, the characteristic particle size (100-600 μm) and specific density (0.60 g/ml) of the microcapsules facilitate a homogeneous distribution and effective dispersion in the gastrointestinal tract.

The microcapsules can also be incorporated into various dosage forms, such as hard capsules and single-dose sachets, both dispersible and orodispersible, allowing versatile integration into different dietary regimens.
