Microcapsules containing vitamin D3 in oil

Vitamin D3, also called cholecalciferol, is a fat-soluble secosteroid produced endogenously by our body when exposed to the sun. Certain circumstances, such as aging or insufficient exposure to sunlight, can cause the production of vitamin D3 to slow down, causing reduced bone mineralisation. The microcapsules of vitamin D3 in oil provided by IPS are the ideal solution for the production of supplements useful to counteract this deficiency.

Vitamin D3 has numerous functions within our bodies, including homeostasis and calcium and phosphate metabolism. For this reason, it is important that the therapeutic efficacy of vitamin D3 supplements is the best it can be. Microencapsulation is a technique that offers many advantages over others used today.

Among these, the most important is undoubtedly the delivery of the active ingredient directly to the intestinal tract. This feature allows for the vitamin to be absorbed fully into the bloodstream and for the regulation of its distribution.

Another important advantage of microcapsules containing vitamin D3 solubilised in oil is the protection against oxidising agents. These agents can in fact alter the chemical and physical characteristics of the active ingredient, making it ineffective. The polymer capsule not only prevents this degradation, but also stops damage caused by the gastric mucosa. Put simply, IPS microcapsules can be produced in gastroresistant form, which makes them effective and efficient.

What is more, the use of microencapsulation by coacervation of vitamin D3 allows for the concentration of the active ingredient to reach up to 80%. This amount of active ingredient is released in a controlled manner, ensuring maximum effectiveness of the product.

These microcapsules can be added to solid oral formulations such as hard capsules, or single-dose, dispersible or orodispersible sachets, as well as in combination with other active ingredients. This process does not alter the therapeutic characteristics of the vitamin in any way; instead, they are enhanced.
