Dill is an aromatic plant characteristic of the Mediterranean and Eastern European areas. It belongs to the Apiaceae family and is characterized by its antiseptic, digestive, antioxidant, purifying, and carminative properties. Thanks to its numerous benefits for the body, dill is often used to produce food supplements, proving to be incredibly effective for the treatment of various digestive problems.

The microcapsules containing dill essential oil supplied by IPS can best preserve the active ingredient, keeping its properties intact. They mainly derive from its main components: Carvone and Limonene. The first is present in concentrations between 20 and 60%, and the second is between 35 and 45%. These high concentration values of the active ingredients are possible thanks to the technique used: microencapsulation by coacervation.

In fact, this process allows both liquid and solid substances to be incorporated inside a gastro-resistant polymeric membrane. It has the task of protecting dill essential oil from its natural biological degradation and from attacks by oxidizing agents. Furthermore, the membrane is resistant to high temperatures and the acidic pH of gastric juices. This allows the active ingredient to be delivered directly to the intestine through a controlled release which improves its bioavailability.

The prolonged release of the active ingredients allows for higher stability of the therapeutic effect. In particular, the use of microcapsules with anise essential oil is recommended for those who suffer from digestive problems or who are prone to colic. Furthermore, its diuretic effects make it a good remedy for water retention patients.

The dimensions of the microcapsules vary from 100 to 600 µm, which is why they can easily be used for the preparation of hard capsules, orodispersible single-dose sachets, and single-dose vials with measuring caps.
