How to correctly take Food Supplements

Food supplements are products containing nutrient-rich substances that are useful in supplementing our daily diets. In some cases, they can be used to assist diets or other treatments aimed at supporting the body's functions.

Although they are not medicinal, supplements must be taken in a correct and balanced way. It is a mistake  to think that they can replace a healthy lifestyle or that they can solve problems caused by unbalanced eating habits.

What is more, it should be noted that food supplements can, in some cases, cause side effects. For this reason it is always advisable to contact a specialist who will be able to give accurate instructions on the quantities to take and on any adverse reactions that could be experienced. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding as well as people suffering from diseases should pay particular attention to how they use supplements.

There is a common misconception that precautions do not need to be taken when taking supplements that are made from natural ingredients. However, it is important to consider that allergies and intolerances can cause side effects even when using small amounts of any given substance.

The most important thing when using food supplements is a good knowledge of the substance in question and its properties. It is also imperative that particular attention is paid to the quantities of supplement to take, which can be found described in detail on the packaging and in the package leaflet.

Something else that should be taken into consideration is that of the type of food supplement to take. For instance, supplements produced through a microencapsulation process have many advantages over classic supplements. For example, it is possible to regulate the level of absorption of the substance into the body, greatly reducing adverse reactions.

To summarise, we can say that food supplements offer enormous benefits for our health if accompanied by a healthy lifestyle and moderated usage.
